October 11, 2017 –
On October 7, 2017 the Fifth Annual 5K Race for DC Kids was held at Bluemont Park with record-breaking turn-out. $14,000 raised in support of the Youth Leadership Foundation through Title Sponsor, DRT Strategies, Inc., and additional sponsors Planet Depos and Koons Automotive. Over 140 participants supported this year's race, which was hosted by Kristen Berset-Harris of WUSA9’s Great Day Washington.
Support from the 5K will ensure the success of YLF programs (which serve 350 students annually) including the newly inaugurated high school mentoring program, which is already off to an energetic start. This past summer, 28 high school students participated in a shark-tank style social entrepreneurship challenge. Area business leaders, including DRT CEO Susan Kidd, engaged students in keystone business case studies and important lessons in business as they prepared their business proposals. DRT has raised over $150,000 in support of YLF since 2007 which has helped 1500 youth receive personal mentoring in the District of Columbia.
