On October 7, 2017 the Fifth Annual 5K Race for DC Kids will be held at Bluemont Park. The 5K run is an out and back course along a beautiful, almost flat stretch of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail. Kristen Berset-Harris of WUSA9’s Great Day Washington will be the Master of Ceremonies.
The event is sponsored by DRT Strategies, an area technology and strategies solutions consultancy recognized by SmartCEO Magazine in their 2017 Future 50 Award program as one of the Greater Washington, D.C. area’s fastest-growing mid-sized businesses based on revenue and employee growth over the past three years. 2017 marks the fourth time SmartCEO magazine has honored DRT Strategies as a Future 50 Award winner.
Inaugurated in 2012, the Annual 5K Race for DC Kids sponsored by DRT Strategies has generated over $50,000, attracting hundreds of runners in support of 3,000 youth in the DC Metro region that receive personal mentoring at the Youth Leadership Foundation (YLF). YLF was recently selected by the Catalogue of Philanthropy: Greater Washington as “One of the Best” Nonprofits as part of the Class of 2017-18.
As its official corporate charity, DRT has contributed over $100,000 to the Youth Leadership Foundation over the past ten years. This past summer, DRT lead high school students through workshops as a part of a high-energy summer business plan competition. The high-performance culture of the organization was on full display as senior leaders, including founder and CEO Susan Kidd, engaged students in keystone business case studies and important lessons in business.
About Youth Leadership Foundation: This year marks YLF’s 20th Anniversary. Since its inception, YLF has built the character of over 3,000 students and has seen 97% of them graduate from high school throughout the Nation’s Capital. Last year, YLF’s character-building programs served 348 youths in all wards of District of Columbia and Prince George’s County through 60 mentors. As a result of their participation with YLF, 92% of YLF students developed greater self-confidence; 83% reported positive changes in study and work habits; and 86% became more goal-oriented.
